CAMPBELL FORBES: SONG WRITER, PRODUCER, BASSIST, SINGER

Campbell Forbes was born and raised in the Bahamas In the capitol Nassau, he had an early introduction to music in high school ( Aquinas College ) singing in choirs and musicals, playing percussion and eventually perfecting his musicianship on the electric bass.

After St. Gregory's University in Oklahoma USA he returned to the Bahamas and was grabbed up by some of the best R&B and Caribbean bands in the country. His natural "roots" rhythm and internal musicality made him one of the most sought after versatile bass players in the Bahamas playing and recording with many local groups including King Eric and His Knights, Tony McKay ( The Obeah Man ), Eddie Minnis and The Beginning of the End ( world hit "Funky Nassau" ). His own band "Summer Breeze"  won the first Bahamian Grammy Award for "Best Calypso Group" and he wrote and recorded the hit "Never Been So Cold". Having met Maitland Thomson over his musical formative years, it was only natural that Maitland became the lead guitarist in many of the bands that Campbell was playing in or leading...particularly the "Summer Breeze Band".  They became a linear duo which led up to their creative abilities in the studio down the road.   As a song writer Campbell's

catalogue consists of over 200 songs and it's still growing. In 1988 after moving to the Netherlands Campbell along with Maitland formed a Caribbean/Reggae/Calypso band called "Freez" Careeb".

Maitland later returned to the Bahamas, Campbell stayed on in Holland. "Freez" Careeb" released a CD "Feel The Music" and toured Holland for over 10 years! In the same period Campbell performed as a duo with popular Frisian Folk artist Bauke van der Woude releasing several albums. They became a household name in Friesland for over 15 years. He also joined the "Wiebe van Dijk Super Band" which drew huge crowds at concerts and festivals.

Currently sharing his time between the Netherlands, the Bahamas and Canada, he continues to write and produce songs for up and coming artists, mentor young music talent, compose songs for children's school music projects, and create promotional videos for his compositions. His latest project is a slide/show video "Never Give Up" dedicated to the "Front Line Workers" during

Covid 19.

His passion for writing, performing and producing is something he wants to share for the rest of his life but of course being a Bahamian, his perfect down time is cooking and fishing.
